Spiritual answer:
When I read the BOM (convert) at age 25, I was so impressed with Mosiah 2:25 (but all of King Benjamin) because not only did I receive an undeniable testimony, but I would name my first male son after King B.
Secular answer:
I had the whole family for thanksgiving one year. I had help preparing all the fixings to be cooked but I have a smoker that is amazing. I started my fires at about 10 pm the night before cooked throughout the night. 2 briskets, a rack of beef ribs and pork ribs. When the time was right I added the ham. Then a few hours before the meal was to be served in went the potatoes, yams, rolls, stuffing, poppers, etc. It was the first time in my life that the entire meal was served on time and HOT. (Usually something is stone cold). (I have a lawn chair I can sit or even lay down on. I am with the smoker around 14 straight hours)
It was cathartic for me watching everyone sitting down at the same time and eating, enjoying the family togetherness. I didn’t even eat. I was so joyful. I concluded that I most joyful when I create happiness that others get to share and experience.
I will never be in the circles of wealth. I’m a 100% service-connected medically retired Naval Aviator. My plan to accumulate wealth withered as quickly as my ability to stand and even sit. I myself am blue through and through. Anything BYU I watch and get to smile, laugh, cry, cheer, and feel like part of whatever I am watching. (Sports) Your gift has allowed me to have a most welcome distraction from chronic pain, PTSD, and isolation. I am so greatful for anyone who contributes even the widow’s mite bc I get to escape and be part of the very essence of what and why you invest privately and humbly. (The mission of this arm of the church and BYUtv.) Thank you all. I am amazed at all the generosity and willingness to FINALLY give BYU the means to truly and fairly compete at the highest levels.
Go Gougs!
