That's one of those soccer rules that if soccer wants it,
they can have it. It's their sport. That said, it can be very arbitrary in enforcement, and as it can have such a great effect on a match, it ought to depend on more than just one person's opinion, imo.


I still take issue with the offsides rule. I understand all the "we hate cherry pickers" arguments. I just look at Marta's second goal yesterday as an example where offsides is stupid. With possession that deep into the opponent's territory, the offense shouldn't have to retreat simply because the defense has had to react to a great play. That's my opinion. That said, it's in the rule book that the players agree to and the goal shouldn't have counted.
