The pink shirted boys aren't why LES has a sub-par student
section. I keep reading people makings jokes that the pink, popped collard shirted boys are why the LES student section is not a very loud section. While it is funny, I attended BYU and there really aren't that many kids like it. And like it or not, they are the Mormon frat boys (nothing unique to BYU, these people exist everywhere!), ever been to any other college and the real frat boys would outnumber the BYU frat boys 100 to1. And these frat boys are usually the loudest people in the stands. No no, the small majority of Mormon frat boys are not the reason why it is so loud. But I do believe I know the reason.

The real reason is a large group of girls who grew up with absolutely no interest in football now go to games as a way to possibly find a date for that night or socialize with the opposite sex. Dating and companionship, not football are what these sweet spirits look for in a football game. While I would see a couple Mormon frat boys every game, I would see many girls, standing together, looking bored. You could tell they were roommates, standing four in a row, talking to each other or looking around hoping for someone else to talk to.

I think to get LES student section loud, you need to somehow capture the attention of the BYU girls. If you have ever been to a Big XII game or SEC game, you see that everyone, including the women and the old people are yelling and screaming. Sure these women at other colleges are generally sloppy drunk, but the peculiar BYU woman should be able to turn their passion of Jane Austen into a passionate, feverish yell for 3 hours a week.

Now I know, I know, your HCBW LOVES football, and was always yelling and screaming at games and that is why you fell in love with her. But remember, and be honest, you are in the minority, you make 6 figures, your wife is more in shape after 4 kids than when you were first married, and she loves football more than you, but a little less then your kids. Remember, you are the exception, not the rule.

Somehow, BYU needs to get the BYU student girls to get more involved in the game, to not be embarrassed to yell and scream. That, along with getting the cranky, white haired man whose been going to games since David O McKay was president, to cheer louder, will make the LES crowd a legit force to be reckoned with.
