I attended BYU in undergrad and law school, had only one run in with the HC
office, when my hair was deemed a tad too long to get into a dance my freshman year. I was turned in and had to report to standards. When the guy saw me, saw my hair, he laughed and told me to get out of his office. That's my story. My oldest son was denied access to play intramural basketball once when his hair was deemed too long. He found someone with scissors, and actually cut his hair so he could play. He did not get reported to HC, to my knowledge, but was just told he couldn't play.

Frankly, I have no problem with the HC or how it is administered. It is a privilege and an honor to attend BYU. I always scratched my head at those who complained about it. If it's a problem, then there are many other school without an honor code. Go there. That's what I would tell my kids.

BYU has rules. It has to have a mechanism to enforce the rules, or they mean nothing. I suppose there are going to be mistake made, and some people will let the HC admin power go to their head. But at the end of the day, the HC is awesome. That's why I want my kids there.
