Another angle would be to look at the 3 point shooting percentage of whoever was getting the backup minutes at the 4 position.
for recent season, Waterman averaged 24 minutes a game. So I think those other 16 minutes mostly went to Saunders at the 4 spot? Saunders shot 36% from three which does fit the theory.
for 20-21, i guess it was Gideon George mostly at the backup 4. He shot 32% from three.
for 19-20, I guess it was Seljaas as the backup 4 and he shot 36% from three.
that largely fits the theory of OP.
Just randomly choosing player 10th in minutes might not be totally fair for opening post theory, but if we had a young player on incoming roster who were to play the 4 position they might be third in pecking order there behind Waterman and Koz.
