Just watched this breakdown of some Bo Nix plays:

I think sometimes people see what they want to see. Okay, that's most of the time.

Sean Peyton is gonna give Nix every opportunity to shine. His reputation now depends on it a little bit, given how far he stuck his neck out to explain using a #12 pick to draft him. Even though they were thinking Denver might take him there, most people did not have Nix rated that high in a straight, take the best player available type setting. Peyton is a pretty good coach, so Nix is going to have a pretty good shot to succeed. Maybe he will, maybe he won't. That said...

First throw in the video: dude highlights it as amazing. In truth, it was a 1-read throw on which Nix was late and behind. Late and behind in the NFL is usually, at best, an incompletion. A simple 1-read throw is also not exactly highlighting how a guy is ready for the NFL.

Second throw was pretty good. He'll have to adjust for just how much more athletic NFL defenders are, but trusting his ability to accurately throw over a defender that far down field is pretty good.

Third throw: Another simple, single read, throw was on time but once again behind. Safety was so deep that he had the entire middle of the field to throw him open. Could have easily gotten another 10 yards or even more with an accurate throw. But again, NFL throwing windows are much tighter. And again, a throw that's behind is usually, at best, an incompletion.

Fourth throw: extremely hard throw to make, all the way back across his body. A better DB makes that tackle after the catch. A better throw never gives the DB a chance. There are plenty of guys in the NFL, including at least one in the Bronco's QB room, that could have made a better throw there, even with the condition of throwing completely back across their body.

Side observation: The Oregon State secondary was not good.

Fifth throw: He's throwing off his back foot. He only gets away with it because the OrSt DBs were that bad and left the Oregon WR that open. The throw hung up just like you'd expect a back foot throw to do, and a better DB who hadn't taken himself so far out of the picture frame would have picked it.

With 658 completions in his Oregon career, I'm sure he's got some really good ones. But 4 of those 5 in the video, while good for college, aren't exactly showing how he's NFL ready. If it was me and I was trying to make a video showing Nix is ready for the NFL, I'd have tried to find ones that either incorporate a complex reading of a defense, or hit his WRs in stride.

Just keep in mind, Nix is a good kid. If Zach doesn't beat him out it means Nix is better.
