He has an effect on his guitar (or possibly even a snare inside of his guitar like a drum box) to give the "bass" and "snare" sounds. This is unusual, which is probably why he has a pickup duct taped into his guitar. Lots of accoustic guitars have pickups so he wouldn't need to do that without alterations.

In order to get the quick snare sounds he's hitting his individual fingers on his guitar, which either means those pickups are extremely sensitive or he is hitting his guitar really hard with his fingers. Judging by the sound he got with his bare fingers on the tight strings above the nut on his guitar and the fact that he's cranking his sound to a live show in a BB stadium, I'd say the latter. If his pickups were cranked to an absurdly high degree he'd get feedback on them.
