when I was in high school my coaches tried to teach us how to flop
and take charges. I refused. Can't stand that crap. Manipulating the rules of the game is cheating. Don't fall over on purpose, don't pretend to get fouled.

Also, not every contact is a foul. There is such a thing as physical contact that is neither a charge or a block. In these non-professional leagues it seems like refs think they need to make a call every time someone runs into someone else.

There was a kid on my team that would fall on his butt every time he shot a contested 3. He got a ton of free-throw shots out of it. He was a cheater, and my coaches were cheaters for encouraging it.

If I end up coaching my kids' team I am going to teach them to stand your ground and don't fall over when someone runs into you unless it is unavoidable. The value in sports does not come from teaching kids how to win. It comes from teaching kids how to do the right thing given the circumstances. Lots of valuable things can be learned from sports. When cheating is encouraged all of that goes out the window.
