Was at a basketball tournament recently and one of the refs was handing out technicals like candy. Apparently, he had awarded three technical fouls to one of the teams that played before us, so he wasn't taking no crap from nobody. In our game, one of our players was called for a shooting foul and flicked his hand downward to express his disagreement. He was immediately assessed a technical. Slight overreaction, but whatever. Then, while the other player was shooting the free throws he missed one, and one of our players said "ball don't lie." The ref came unglued. "Who said that? Who said that? Alright, nobody is fessing up? Team technical!" I've never seen a technical given for something that soft.

My other favorite technical/flagrant foul story involved myself as a 5th grader. I had no idea what I was doing on the court. A team was crushing us and one of their guards (who incidentally was the son of the high school varsity coach that I later played for several years later) got a breakaway layup. My 5th grade brain knew I couldn't just let him have a bunny, but didn't know what kind of contact was allowed, so I full on shoved him in the back. He did miss the layup, but I got a flagrant foul and spent the rest of the game on the bench.
