Even better take a drive through the Netherlands, the densiest country in Europe
and then you'll realize we're doing it all wrong in America. Not only do the Dutch feel like they all live in nature (as one told me) despite being the densest country in Europe ... it was also voted the most pleasurable country to drive in. They have been very smart about looking at transportation not as a "how can we move cars from point A to point B" but instead "how can we make our communities great to live in?" and as part of that, they DO find great ways to move people around (because getting somewhere is part of living in a great community), but they don't lose site of their primary goal----which is creating great places to LIVE.

If you can't go live in the Netherlands for a month or two, read this book which describes their model well:
