Utah had just beaten BYU in SLC to take sole first place in the MWC. Both teams had the road trip to the Pit and USAFA left. Utah went and pulled off a tough win over UNM on Saturday and BYU beat USAFA in overtime in Colorado Springs. In the second games that weekend Utah was upset by USAFA and BYU beat UNM to join WYO and Utah in a 3 way tie. Some Cadet named Chris Bellairs was dominant in the win over the Utes and poor Chris Burgess airballed a free throw at a crucial point. This was in the wake of Chris Burgess' "He Can't Stop Me!" outburst when he was scoring at will again Mikeli Wesley in the Huntsmen the previous Saturday. Chris was not nearly as popular to mormons and the CB posting crowd then as he is now.

The Utes came out as the #1 seed in the tourney and had a bye to the semis which they lost to UNM. BYU beat AF, uhhhh-gin, in the quarters, beat WYO in the semis and then beat UNM in the finals riding Mikeli Wesley and his 100% fg percentage effort to its only MWC tournament win.

It was fun, but man I can still remember Chris airballing that free throw. LOL.
