A couple things in CA regarding teen driving... If you are 18, you do not have to take driver's ed. Also, when you get
your license at 16 or 17, you have to wait an entire year before you can have friends in the car.
I know one kid that waited until he was turning 18 because of those 2 things. Oh, and insurance is like another $1.5K to add a kid per year.
