on new mothers to breastfeed, and it seems to come at them from every direction: social circles (mommy groups), online communities, hospitals, nurses, TV, etc. Not everyone is aggressive about it, but it's very much a pressure. The worst part about it from my perspective is that there was nowhere for us to turn to get a fair and honest assessment of both breastfeeding and formula feeding, as every piece of literature on the internet, in bookstores, etc., and every friend who shared their opinion, all did so with a specific angle in mind. All my wife wanted was to find the pros and cons of each, but presented in a way that wasn't trying to persuade her to pick a specific side.
Anyway, yes, these days there's a ton of pressure put on women by society and medical professionals to breastfeed.
