BYU can't control what Utah did in joining the Pac-12 or in refusing to play these past two seasons. Unfortunately, I don't see that BYU had a lot of options when it went independent. It could not join the Pac-12, and did not get an invite to the Big-12 for whatever reason. TV rights are important and the Mountain West sucked big time. I'm not as down on independent status as many here are. My wife and I have loved traveling to away games around the country - even though BYU was 1-3 in the away games we attended (all but San Jose). I honestly was SO FRUSTRATED in the way BYU handed the last game to Mizzou. It seems BYU is always underachieving under Bronco, melting when it matters most. There have been some cool moments (such as the Nebraska/BSU wins, but they have turned out to be less than stellar teams), but the BYU coaching staff needs to be able to dial up more to increase the results. I don't know how to do it. But, the team played pretty uninspired/stupid football vs. Missouri, which is incredibly inexplicable. In fact, it seems the WORST thing that happened to BYU was to play Wagner, followed by a bye week. My take is that BYU got an inflated view of how good it was after killing Wagner, which was evident in the San Jose State game. That seemed to carry over to the Missouri game. Plus, I just don't understand the lack of offensive creativity vs. Missouri and the lack of discipline on the defensive side. It blows the mind.

I realize your OP was not about much of what I wrote. Just taking this moment to vent.
