Kidney to bladder = severe pain.
bladder to toilet = mild pain, some urinary irritation.

I've had exactly what you just had. I've had times when I had no flank pain, and just some urinary irritation, and eventually peed out the stone. Left me wondering how I missed the stone going down the ureter. But I'll take the win and not look a gift horse in the mouth.
