It’s smaller than ever in terms of talent. Bigger than ever in terms of dollars.
College sports have been flattening for a long time outside a few very elite programs. Those very elite programs command so much money the teams in their conference are simply caught in the wave but the average P5 program can be beaten any day by a good mid-major in basketball.
The gap is wider in football but still closer than ever.
