I think you're getting pretty good advice already, so I'll just throw in one other thing we tried this past year. Son played club soccer for ~ 1.5 years and I ended up pulling him part way through second year for a combination of reasons and stuck him back in rec (my health, the club coach, and son's behavior all factored in). While in rec, we had him play up one season and this season he's playing 2 years up, so that might be another option if you don't want to go the club route just yet.

On a separate note, I wonder if no travel in Las Vegas at this age has a lot to do with lack of nearby teams to play? I'm not an expert in Nevada geography, but seems like you might have to travel pretty far to get a good game outside the greater Las Vegas area, no?
