My company pays extra on the Rental Car Gas to NOT have us stop anywhere in Oakland and drive as quickly as possible over the hill to Pleasanton / Dublin / Livermore area. NEVER STOP on the Oakland side of the mountain is the general instructions we get.

I have stopped and eaten at the In-N-Out there on Hegelburger several years ago, and thought "this is just off, I'll never stop here again" ... and I have eaten at the Black Bear Diner there as well, which felt ok inside but clearly bad news outside. I know colleagues who had stuff stolen out of their car at the gas stations there. The area right there is really really bad....)
