BYU needs to get into a conference for the fans. Tired of the season being over
after the first loss, which is usually in the first game or two. Nothing to watch for after that. Certainly not good football. I watch because I love the team and the school, but too often it is more frustrating than satisfying. In a conference, even now, there is the possibility of a championship or a high finish. In a conference, even with a loss, there's a chance at an NY6 bowl.

I was all for independence initially and even until recently, but this year has been it. It may be good for the school, but it's terrible for fans. Join the AAC for football only. Try to bring BSU, CSU and SDSU. Most years, the conference champ would be in the NY6 and have a small chance at the playoffs.

Obviously, I would prefer a P5 conference, but that looks more and more like that is never happening, for reasons related to the church and location, not the program.

I also realize, that due to all the pressure to win to be relevant as an independent, I've become less tolerant of the team and its coaches as a fan. For the season to have significance to me, they cannot lose, which means they cannot make mistakes or be human. That's not realistic except for once in a blue moon. But that's the way it is set up as an independent. In a conference with access (even limited access) to the post season, I can be more realistic in my expectations and still find joy in the season. All of the pining for a P5 conference membership and the inability to lose one game and achieve my expectations have sucked all the joy out of the season. I'm sure other fans feel the same.

BYU just needs to get into a conference, IMO. It's not going to get any better anytime soon . . . (I'd love to be wrong about that).
