People make too much of that list. It's not the issue.
The issue is that BYU football needs to be the thing for a while. I am not sure if the firesides are a distraction, or are great or whatever, but I like that BYU does focus on real character building with players in all areas. I just do not really know how off that balance is from the outside. I'm not sure PK knows either.

I think Bronco does a lot of things right, and I do not see the religious aspects being an issue. Notre Dame does similar things, has for decades, and no one is cracking on them to tone it down. But I think that is because the school has people to handle those other things for the coach, so Kelly knows it is ritual, but he does not have to run it that way.

The issues with the team have little to do with the religious aspects. It is BYU, so it's part of the deal. It does have to do with players not getting it done, and perhaps some coaches not being up to their positions.

I think fans overestimated the talent we had this year, and our depth. No Taysom, no Williams, no pass rush, poor tackling, poor coverage. We're just not as good as we thought we were, especially after Taysom went out. He carried our team. Without him we are exposed, and it is highlighting recruiting needs all over the place, especially the need for more speed.
