I'm 100% cognizant of the fact that independence is WAY better than what we had in the MTV and the mtn. However, it seems the administration and AD were so sure of our brand, schools wanting to schedule us and respect us (see ND), and that eventually everyone would want to have us join their conference after they saw how awesome we are with independence and ESPN. Holme and Bronco in recent years have admitted to independence not being a great destination and hopefully just a path to a P5, but our on the field product has gotten worse in the mean time and now with this horrendous season right when the B12 may get squeezed out of the playoff, we are exposed as being a bad football team against poor competition.
I know Holme says there was never an offer from B12, but I think that's a nuanced description of what happened. I'm sure we saw the B12 as an unstable conference that wouldn't let us keep BYUtv and we started making demands and yes, there was no formal offer when they saw they had TCU yapping for inclusion with a better football team. We thought we'd get a better offer down the road because we are BYU and we'd make independence work. Well...
Independence has now worked US. And we'll be lucky to join the AAC at this point with our tail between our legs.
