The Jazz are kind of like a farmer this year. Farmers always wait until the end of the year and see if they've made too much money. If they have, they go buy a new truck or tractor. They can either spend their money on an asset that they can use as an expense on their tax return, or they pay the government more money in taxes. The Jazz have to spend their money, especially next year when the salary cap and salary floor will rise significantly. Might as well get someone this year who will be cheaper than the equivalent player next off-season. I'd rather them take a chance with a veteran that may be able to provide leadership and shooting from the wing position than have a bunch of Ian Clarke's and Jack Cooley's on the team.
