I was fishing on the Upper Salt / Black River. Had a few small mouth bass on the stringer and all of a sudden brown bear popped down the canyon wall opposite of me across the "river" about 50 ft away. AZ only has one real river the rest are glorified streams that can easily be walked across except during spring run off. It was mangy scrawny looking, which made me think it was hungry. Fortunately it didn't pay any attention to me and headed upstream. But that was in the direction of my buddies that are lots better fisherman than me. So I had to start hooting and hollering because they could have crossed and were on the side of the bear.
Ended up being no problem I think it was more nervous of us We all carry so if it did try to come at us hopefully we would have been okay.
As we headed back to camp we encountered another one on our side but it was 50 yards away and scampered back up the hill upon seeing us.
