Don't get me wrong - I love Mark Pope and I'm glad he coached at BYU. But did anyone see his effusive praise of players like Kolby Lee during the season, only to cut him loose after the season? Or his massive bouts of exaggeration? Pope is absolutely a competitive, driven personality type - who knows he can't achieve the pinnacle of his profession at BYU. But, yeah - would sure have been nice to see AT LEAST an acknowledgement of his relationship with the Cougar players that he left behind.
I'm kind of grasping at straws, though. Would I take Pope back in a minute? You bet. But were hints of some effects of a very mercurial personality type that tended to throw fits when he didn't win... far from the even-keeled Coach Rose or the flat-lined Lavell. But boy he was entertaining!
