But he’s seems to be really good at recognizing undervalued talent. Of all the skillsets to bring to Kentucky, that’s the most worthless one. Kentucky doesn’t need to find diamonds in the rough. They can just take the polished gems in the first place.
He managed to put together a pretty good, although not a great, team last year. (Great teams don’t lose in the first round). He did a lot of clever things and a lot of really dumb ones. I highly doubt he fixes that next year.
We’re going to miss his ability to find talent—no doubt. But he underutilized it SO much last year.
Regardless, up until the conference championship games, we had a heck of a run. It was a fun year. I’ll always be grateful for that, but Pope has stepped into a massive mismatch on his best ability. I highly doubt he’ll last long there.
