dress and grooming policies. The purpose is that they want their employees, students, etc. to have a certain look that they feel is appropriate for whatever the institution is. No one is saying (at least I’m not) that YOU can’t have a different opinion, but why can’t you understand that BYU, the Yankees, the military, many companies, etc. should be able to have the dress and grooming policies that THEY feel is appropriate? The purpose might just be that those owners (or whoever is in charge) just thinks being clean shaven with moderate or short hair looks more professional. You can disagree. If you run an institution then you can choose if you want dress standards or not.
And this is what I meant about it “doesn’t have to serve a purpose” Some “no beard” policies might be because it interferes with the seal of a SCBA mask, or that long hair or long beards can get caught in machinery, similar to loose jewelry or loose clothing.
But some policies might be because those in charge just think it looks better. If you don’t like it then work somewhere else or go to a different school. You might think it’s a “culturally archaic directive”, but apparently BYU doesn’t agree with you.
