The reality is that we should know this - it isn't difficult to understand.
Yes - people who make their living coaching basketball should know more about basketball than a bunch of dudes who dedicate a handful our hours a week during the season to armchair point guard what the team and coaches should be doing.

But I was reminded again in watching the NBA playoffs this last weekend. In every single game - there was at least one moment when the center had the ball above the 3 pt line and turned either their back to the basket or stood facing the sideline (90 degrees to the basket), while another player ran by for a handoff screen or a just a run past and cut - and I was reminded of several CB experts complaining about how dumb it was that Pope had BYU's bigs do that. Because apparently it makes no sense to ever have the big above the 3 pt line with the ball and not be facing the basket.
