And let's be honest for a second. Context makes a world of difference.
While I never had an issue with Collie's statement, and doubt he really thought it through, the fact he said it at the end of the Utah game makes it a bigger issue than it would have been normally.
If Collie had said in a preseason interview that when you live right, the Lord helps you out, I doubt there would be any controversy.
But by saying it on the heels of the Utah game and his plays he made against the Utes. The following has negative implications towards Utah.
1. The Lord stepped in
2. He did that because BYU was living right off the field
So the Lord stepped in and helped BYU because they were "living right". The direct implication, though again I doubt he meant to make it, is that Utah's players were not "living right". Why else would the Lord step in and help BYU if both teams were "living right"?
So unless Kyle said this directly in reference to a game, then you can't even start to make the comparison.
And when one is talking religiously, and one essentially about Karma, I am not sure how you can make that giant leap regardless of context.
