Is he that great?
I never thought he was a particularly great coach. I might be wrong though. Yes, he's won a ton of state championships, but look at some of the players that he's had on his team. I think a good coach is one who overachieves when he has young players.
Case in point to Tyler Haws' freshman year playing at Lone Peak. In addition to Haws that team had Josh Sharp, Justin Hamilton (played at Iowa State and LSU, second round pick of the Miami Heat 2012 draft), Nate Austin, and Bracken Funk (played at Fresno St. and BYU-Hawaii). Sure these players were sophomores and freshman, but with three players over 6 foot 10, and then Sharp and Haws to boot, that sounds like a pretty good team.
They didn't make the playoffs. That's coming off Jackson Emery's senior year where they won state. Sure, they won state the next three years, but how could you not with those players.
Also, whenever I have seen them play, they just give the ball to their stars and let them score. There's not much of an offense, or defense (at least in the past, this years defense is incredible ) in place. It's like Lewis just lets them play.
Which, now that I think of it, is actually pretty good coaching. But where would he be, and how good of a coach would he be, at any other school, like Provo High? Would his players overachieve year in and year out like Drury's did/do?
