Making a few shots helps on defense.
You can't go 8 minutes without a FG and only make 4 FG's in the 4th quarter. There is a psychological factor at play...for both teams.

One historic example was how the Pistons used Vinnie "The Microwave." The Pistons played nasty, nasty D...but sometimes you have to score too. Vinnie didn't play D, but he was instant offense. Anyone who forgets to credit what he brought to the table for those teams has missed the boat.

Thibs coaches teams that are a bit like that...but right now they don't have anyone that provides spark. Jimmer...for whatever many faults he might have...scores. And if that's his assignment in a short period of time, I think he'd do a pretty good job of that. Thibs has on his bench a guy who when given any kind of consistant minutes has been a top 10 PER guy. It's worth a shot...and probably ends up helping a bit on defense strictly from a psychological standpoint. Sometimes the best defense is putting points on the board that the other team has to make up.
