One of my new project managers worked for the Sugar Bowl in 09. He told me they
were all disappointed when they got Utah because they thought a small handful of sober Mormons were going to show up in New Orleans and not spend any money.
To their surprise however the Utah fans (new as they may be) showed up en masse and had a great time. They spent money and the event was a big success. I asked if they would ever invite BYU and he said that after that event they would be more likely to invite BYU because they knew BYU had a similar demographic but a much larger fan base and they found out they could make it work. In the new system this doesn't matter, but interesting anyway.

He also had a lot to say about Kyle Whittingham. All of the bowl officials were very impressed with how he managed his team and the media during the event. He told me the bowl committee loved working with him and that people noticed what a nice guy he was to everyone (media, bowl officials, event staff, kids, and random fans).

Just some interesting observations I thought I would share.
