My mother was beat by my drunken father any time he felt like it. As I got older (10 y/o) I would stand between he and my mom and he took it out on me. I would run and he would chase me down the street in the middle of the night. Relatives would ask my mom what she was doing to get him so upset? Instead of intervening. Eventually my mom got enough courage to leave and she managed just fine on her own with us kids. One week suspension not long enough. Dumb comment.
