But our country's recent history with slavery should make us somewhat familiar with what slavery can mean.

Slaves are literally owned property. Slaves don't merely feel like slaves, they are slaves.
They weren't necessarily allowed to go to school. They weren't necessarily allowed to own property.

Glorifying slavery by pretending that it's similar to something people strive for really is disgusting. I don't understand it either.
