analyzing the Coaches poll RE: BYU
BYU earned 26 points in the USA today Coaches Poll (124 pts behind the 25th placed team Texas).

In my mind earning votes and moving up in the polls is dependent upon three things:
1) winning
2) being on TV - highlights and discussion around game
3) having coaches in your corner - I believe most votes cast by coaches are based on self interest. And there is data to back this up.

Looking at the list of coaches (see bottom) I think we will have three coaches who are surely voting for us and three more that might be voting for us because of a personal connection.

Certainly voting for us because it benefits them if we are ranked: Bronco, Rick Stockstill, and Bob Diaco

Might be voting for us because of a personal connection: Steve Sarkisian, Ken Niumatalolo, and Norm Chow.

Other coaches might be voting for us simply because they want to hold someone out. For example, Gary Pinkel is pretty adamant and open about not voting for any non-power 5 teams. He certainly isn't voting for us.
