As Chris Carter confirms, when it comes to child abuse woman are just as guilty as men. It is easy for sell the message of "never hit a woman" when woman don't want to be hit and many men like to say what woman want to hear. The message of "never hit a child" is just as applicable but both men & women are guilty and children don't have much of a media voice to speak in their own defense.
What Petersen did was excessive. It was cruel. It is especially sad that such abuse happens far too often. That said corporal punishment is ingrained in our culture. Bill Cosby himself had a joke about his father telling him to "go get me a stick I can beat you with". The NFL can and should respond to excessive and outrageous behavior of its employees. But I don't think fans want a sports league telling them how to raise their children.
