401k options for unemployed or employed without 401k plan?
Are there 401k investment options for two different hypothetical scenarios for my oldest daughter:
1. She's "unemployed"; meaning she earns money doing odd jobs.
or
2. She works for an employer that doesn't offer a 401k plan.

1 -- SEP IRA, IRA, or SE 401k. 2 -- IRA

For the SEP, the company still has to create it. For the SE 401, she'd have to

Let's take the absurd scenario where she has $50K to invest

No, the IRA contribution limits are $5,500/year

So what are her options at that point?

Invest the funds in a non-qualified account.

This is true. Lots of smart $ people on CB

Not immediately. If she's under the age of 50

This is correct. Key is earned income.

Under both scenarios an IRA/Roth IRA is an option
