Truly great coaches seem to be able to take mediocre talent and turn it into
something remarkable e.g., Edwards (and company) in the transformative years at BYU, Urban at Utah, Boise State (in various incarnations), Andersen (to a lesser extent) at USU. They seem to bring out the best in their players and motivate/train them to execute at an exceptional level

Maybe the expectation of having that kind of coach is too high (although we can hope for it). Maybe our expectations ought to be lowered in order to align with reality. The problem I have is that if you take Bronco at his word, the system is phenomenal. He really believes that. He's been told that by Paul Gustavson. And Paul has written a book about it so it must be amazing.

If the coaches really believe there's nothing wrong with "the system" there's only one place to look. In other words, the recipe is phenomenal, it's the cooks that keep mistaking teaspoons for tablespoons and salt for sugar.

It would be easier for me to accept lowered expectations if I felt the coaches were looking first and foremost at the system. I'd feel better if THEY were asking the question, "Is it i?" instead of throwing the players under the bus.
