We see it all the time in the business world. One high performer (maybe in sales, for instance) will be tapped to lead a team (maybe in business development) and struggle mightily. It's a pretty common scenario. The high performer may even think he wants to be a leader...but even if they have the desire/ambition, they may lack the necessary skills to pull it off.
We've seen it a lot in sports as well. A high performer on the field/court/pitch may want to get into coaching, but be really, really bad at leading others.
Yes, I realize that I set myself up for some Bronco comments, but I think he's doing as good a job as ANYBODY could do in that environment. Of course, I've been wrong before...we'll have to see.
