The fact that this term is even used here is a testament to the effectiveness
of the smear campaign of non-monopoly football schools by the money programs and conferences.

Once upon a time, the term mid-major referred to schools who had major basketball programs, but who, for whatever reason, didn't field a football team at all.

The fact that it's used to describe non-monopoly football programs is basically admittance that the program as good as non-existent.

Sigh.
