There is a HUGE lack of recruiting talent on D line.
Bronco's D works, when you have talented LB's. BUT - his soft approach to the "bend but don't break" defense, has led to a Defense, with no teeth. A defense, that doesn't and CAN'T be aggressive, because Bronco's been content to recruit journeymen (under talented D lineman) to play DE and DT. In his slide of aggressive defense, he's not taken serious, needing D lineman that can get pressure or get penetration in the backfield and make plays. Only asked, to absorb blockers. Only needs guys who can act like a door stop.

BYU can recruit way talented D lineman, but they are NOT allowed to be aggressive. So Bronco and Howell, you have your door stop (lack of talent) Defensive linemen. Who can't beat themselves out of a wet paper bag. They do a very nice job of absorbing blockers - easily blocked - NEVER able to make plays. I guess, we should all be happy with that. Yes, they are absorbing blockers - and nothing else. That is painfully clear, on each and every play. No D lineman in the face of QB's. Not even close.

Cougars can have some of the most talented D linemen and LB's out there. Bronco's harmless, soft approach for his D lineman, is killing this team. Better stated, it's killing Cougar nation.
