BYU football truly operated on the cheap for decades, yet they were able to win enough games to obtain a Championship and climb into the national spot light. While most of the staff were long term relationships, the QB coaches came and went on to bigger and better positions ($). The system grew the passing game evolved without STAGNATION!!!
Enter the Crowton years, crash and burn...Bronco pulled together a make shift life raft/staff and paddled to a deserted island where the Cougars have been for almost decade. ESPN has come to the rescue, but it appears the church, the AD and Bronco refuse their attempts. Basically, a severe case of the Stockholm Syndrome, the weirdness of cougar football stems from being cheap, cutting corners and being "just good enough"...IT TAKE MONEY TO MAKE MONEY. Any objective manager could and should turn BYU Football into a money making proposition where coaching salaries are included in the net profit...Football could pay for all of it plus every other athletic program, if managed and marketed in a professional manner.
Face it, not many big name teams are coming to Provo, if any. Home games will be what they are, and the valley folks will have to live with it for a while because BYU Football will be forced to play a lot of one and dones to climb back into the national conversation...The last FIVE years have severely eroded any standing gained by the previous accomplishments...
