Not being from Utah and admittedly not being a big time BYU basketball fan, I haven't understood the enfatuation with Haws among BYU faithful. Propping him up into the role of a star has always seemed a bit forced. I see him as a very solid player, just not a great one.
Being more accustomed to ACC and BIG 12 hoops, I definitely see him as a shooting guard for a really good team, (Maybe like a Brady Helsip from Baylor) not not as the guy that you necessarily count on to put the team on his back. He doesn't really facilitate shots for others, doesn't demand a double team, and has a hard time creating his own shot. And then there's defense, which at best is sub par.
I've heard fellow BYU fans engaging in talks of Hawes NBA potential, and honestly I think he may have a hard time competing in some of the upper-level European leagues because he doesn't exactly have a specialty (I know he's a 40% 3 pt shooter, but he doesn't shoot a whole lot of threes).
In my opinion, he'd be a really great second option, a la Jackson Emery to Jimmer.
