Well, we decided to try the "cut the cable" or "dump the dish" approach ..... we stream almost everything .... and just got a DVR for local HD broadcasts ...
I have to say, the "cancellation" process was SOOOO annoying..... which I guess is to be expected.
So I try to cancel online (I wanted it to be done on email or chat so I have a documented transcript!!).... but no .... "For My Convenience" that can only be done talking to a live agent.
So I call ... and of course that agent can't help me either ... they have to transfer me to the 'loyalty" department.
So I get to the "loyalty" department ... which sure has a Orwellian speech control feel to that name since it is for the people trying to cancel ... not exactly loyalty!
So, the non-english speaking agent offers first to lower my bill by $25 a month for 10 month. I say no.
Then she offers to lower my bill by $25 a month for a year. I say no. Then she offers to put my account on hold for 9 months .... to automatically turn back on in 9 months. I said no way .... that is last thing I want to automatically start up again.
So then she talks to the Back Office, and offers me $40 off each month for year.
I'm sure the people at Dish (and alot of other places) have this down to a science and "know what they are doing" ... but honestly it just annoyed me more than anything else. If you can offer me $40 off a month to keep my business ... then lower my bill BEFORE I decide to cancel. How about offering a deal to current customers who are "loyal" from the "loyalty" department.
The other thing that annoyed me is she kept saying thanks for being a loyal customer for "6 years" .... we have had Dish for almost 15 years and moved about 6 years ago. The "loyalty" department ought to get THAT part right ... but evidently doesn't really care all that much.
THEN to add insult to injury .... just to drive one last knife in and really make me mad at the company ... She tells me that there will be a $17 charge to pay for the shipping on returning them the equipment .... including having to retrieve the LBNF things off the dish outside .... so I have to climb a ladder in the snow in December to get them back the one part they want back!!!
ARGH!!!!!! I knew that cancelling was going to be unpleasant ....
