Whitt sensing that Utah is on unstable ground, decides to jump ship and take the Michigan job after Urban Meyer mysteriously has a family crisis after losing in the playoff and retires from college football to focus on his family. Harbaugh leaves Michigan to take the Ohio State job. Several days later the NFL announces Urban Meyer as the new NFL commissioner. Urban states the family crisis was solved right before the job was offered.

Bronco Mendenhall, sensing that the time is right to make his move, decides to hold firesides the day before and the day after gameday. CBers rejoice. Howell is demoted to fireside coordinator. Fireside ratings go down as it appears the firesides are poorly organized with several speakers speaking out of position. Howell blames the speakers for poor attendance.
