I agree and disagree with him. I agree with his general point that football
players in college should be compensated in addition to what is already covered for the simple reason that the work they do by playing football generates millions and millions of dollars in TV contracts, ticket sales, donations, merchandise, and in some cases increased applications to the university (for example, the University of Oregon's out of state application numbers have skyrocketed in the last 10 years since Oregon barged onto the scene as an elite football program).

However, I disagree with his statement that student-athletes have it worse than most other students. Yes, there are plenty of students who don't work during college and whose parents are paying for everything. However, student-athletes have it much better than the student who has no family money and no scholarship and who has to work and take out student loans that they will be paying back for many years. But that's life. Some people have it easy because of their privileged backgrounds, others have it harder because they have to earn everything on their own.

At the end of the day, student-athletes should get a bigger piece of the gigantic pie, since they are ultimately the product that fans pay to see. But the fact that housing, tuition, food, and medical insurance are all paid for, they have it better than a lot of college students who are either working close to, if not as much or more as student athletes, OR who are taking out so much money in student loans that they'll be straddled with debt for years and years to come.
