Secondary coach.

Bronco is the D-coordinator. Not Howell.

If Howell was still the D-coordinator, that would be a problem IMHO. I have no problem with him staying on staff in a reduced role... especially if that reduced role is where he was when we had a top 25 defense for three years straight.
