I work for a place that sells the vinyl to do this to companies....
From what I get told, it is very safe for the vehicles. It doesn't damage the paint in any way.

They have sponsored some classes on how to actually apply the vinyl, and they wrap a car or two during the class. A couple of times they have wrapped a company car as the demo. I watched a guy remove the vinyl afterwards, and he was able to remove all of the vinyl on his own in a little over an hour. There were no blemishes left behind on the car.

That said, it is very expensive to wrap a car. The material is costly. So I wouldn't plan on removing/changing the wraps on a frequent basis.
