You're probably right.I only reported what I noticed during my 2 years in Europe
Someone else could have a different experience.

American English always caught my ear too because it's not as soft as languages like Portuguese, French, Italian or English spoken without an American accent.

What's odd is that I didn't notice anything too crazy about the Germans other than the fact that they were the most likely to strip off naked on or near the beach. Of course, I probably mix the Dutch with Germans. They looked so similar (tall) and sounded similar too.
