Although it was just a small wart hog, the kill was one of the coolest things I
have seen with my own eyes.

We had just previously sat and watched a pride of lions for about 30 mins. Shortly after leaving the pride we came up on a mother lion and her two cubs. Since we had just spent all that time watching the pride, our guide asked if it would be OK if we just kept going to find some other animals. About a minute down the road he slammed on the brakes, flipped a U, told us to hold on and get our cameras ready.

As we got closer he mentioned that, from his rear-view mirror, he thought it looked like the lions were hunting. The mother lion sat down and watched the two cubs disappear into the bush. We could see the head of a giraffe just over the trees. The two cubs flanked it and went in for the kill. The giraffe caught on and high tailed in out of there, running just in front of our jeep with the cubs in tow.

After failing to land the giraffe the mother decided to give a lesson on hunting. We followed behind and within a few minutes came upon an old termite mound with two small holes on opposite sides. One of the cubs went around to the back side and started clawing at the hole. A warthog shot out of the front entrance and with one giant leap the mother lion came down and latched on to its neck.

Our guide later told us that a warthog is the hardest animal to see, more like hear, killed. It sounded like a hungry newborn baby with a megaphone. The cries were deafening and as it laid there screaming the two cubs started feasting on the rump. My wife kinda had a hard time with it.

A few minutes later 5 other lionesses from the pride arrived and got in on the feast. I was shocked at how much meat such a small hog had. It took them a while to devour it.

The night before we came upon a cheetah with a fresh gazelle in its jaws. But we missed the actual kill. It was really dark and made it hard to get any good photos.
