Today, the College Football Playoff director stated that "The three independents are perfectly happy being independent. They [all] have the ability to craft their schedules to fit their needs. If their need and goal is to be in the playoff, then they're in the same boat as everybody else. You better play a good schedule if you want to be in the playoff." see

The statement was in response to comments from coaches that Notre Dame should join a conference if it wants to be included in the College Football Playoff. Since we would love to see BYU and Notre Dame play each year, why not agree that two top independents schedule a playoff on the week conferences schedule their playoffs?
